Oregon has so far booked three dalecatos to the world's fourth Sunday School Convention, which Is to be held In Jeru
salem. April 18, 10 and 20, 1004. Thee delegates are Miss Edna Allen, of Albany, and Miss Ella J. Buddemer and Mrs.
"W. C. Puffer, of Portland. As delegates will have to pay their own expenses on this trip. It Is optional with Sunday school
workers as to who shall go. So far, about COO delegates from oer 30 states, provinces, territories and republics in North
America have booked to sail on the Xorth German Lloyd steamer Gros.er Kurfurst, which the executive committee has char
tered especially for this cruise. The Grosser Kurfurst will leave New Yfirk March 8. and arrive In Jerusalem In time for the
opening of the convention. The Itinerary includes Maderla, Gibraltar. Northern Africa, Malta, Greece, Turkey, Asia Minor,
Syria, tho Holy Land, Egypt, Italy and the Riviera. There will be optional side trips to Damascus, Gallic-, the Dead Sea,
Jordan, Jericho and many other points In Egypt, Sjrla and Palestine, which are rich in traditions of the Christian faith, and
which will give the student of the New Testament substantal historical basis lor his belief.
The first of these world's conventions was held in London, July 1, 1S50. About 330 delegates from America attended, and
15 countries throughout the world -were represented. The second, which was held in September, 1SU3, met at St. Louis, while
the third. In 1S08, was hgain held in London, where 10 countries were represented.
The selection of Jerusalem for a convention of thla character Is considered especially appropriate. Advanced methods, ot
Biblical study emphasize the Imperative need of modern research, and a familiar knowledge of the scenes connected with
the early history of the Christian church.
The Oregon delegates are going armed with an Invitation to the convention to hold -the next, or fifth, one In Portland,
and express a determination to succeed In securing It.
