And again Accentuates the supremacy it holds over every other great store in the Northwest. This splendid mercantile lecder demands and receives the homage due from its confreres throughout the confines of every state west of the Rockies. New goods are being received daily; garments arid other merchandise arriving from Paris and other European style centers on every Atlantic steamer are being hurried across the continent on fast trains by our representatives in New York. These laggards that arrived at our receiving, rooms after the curtain rung up on our grand Fashion Show the past week were given a back seat until the first act was over. Now, without undue confusion, we usher them to the places reserved for them, and invite your inspection tomorrow and the coming week Out Second Week of Splendid Openings in All Lines of American and Foreign Manufacturers! A Grand Napoleonic Revival in tEe Fashion World. Napoleon: He'd win and hold. Rather than to shrink his ideas of world-power to fit an island of Elba and entered Paris March 23. ' 7 June IS came Waterloo, and July 15 Napoleon surrendered to the British Admiral, woven that Summer I Three months (popularly called "the hundred days") measures the period rebounds to the period of the Directoire (J 795-99), the arc encompassing the successful years So Napoleon rules the styles and be it the sweeping lines or the Directory, the queer Naooleon. and twenty years ot brench history are done into the rail and wmter styles. There's Naooleon's touch of eold braid and. bless you. it is cropping: out It's a Napoleon renaissance and that means variety: the half-severity of on. frock showy and becoming, while certain enviably pretty women will find stunning adaptations. It's a beauty year rich in millinery and in dress, and that means richness of materials, habitat, with a yearly stipend of 2,000,000 francs, Napoleon, on February 26, J8J5, left the island Hotham, at Rochefort, and by October 16 had been deported to St Helena. How history was of the Second Restoration. This period is one swing of the Fashion pendulum this season. It of Napoleon. criss-cross of Napoleon's own side-wise hats or the high crown of the Restoration, it is all and coat collars.' uniform to the richness of -his court women's raiment. Any "woman-can get a hat both correct " for there is less piled on and more dependence is placed in fabric and line. At Boms and abroad this great store is equally famous for reliability, quality and price rightedness. A comparison of our mail order catalogue with those issued by other Portland houses will quickly explain why this IS so. ' An oracular demon stration of this store's popularity abroad is shown in our corner show window af Fifth and Washington streets, where are shown the actual orders for goods received thro Department IN ONE MONTH.- Here, piled up, are the en velopes from one .month's re ceipts of orders by mail. We have finished mailing our cata logues. If you have not received yours, drop us a postal and we'll forward by raturn mail our handsome, J 62-page, beautifully illustrated catalogue, filled -with descriptions andprices of relia ble merchandise obtainable from this house. Satisfaction packed with every order or your money back cheerfully without an noyance. Orders shipped same day as received. We do the largest mail-order business on the Coast, and from reliable sources feel justified in the state ment that our business in this line EXCEEDS THAT OF ANY OTHER THREE PORT LAND HOUSES COMBINED. Send US your orders. SEND YOUR ORDERS ' Genuine Bargains in Fall . Hosiery and 1 Underwear Latest At Avals at Fashion's Inn Fo Women Only. PatiSv and American Gowns and Wraps iot Autumn Wear (2d floor-:-Woman's Salon.) What's the fashion? Gome and see. This store could have a fence built around it now and still stand ready to outfit its splendid pub lic for a long time to come. Not everybody seems to catch the knack of harmonious dress ing, as yet we. now owe more to Paris for color combinations and the knack of wearing clothes than for the clothes to wear. Paris is inconstant flits from fashion to fashion; jwhile too many of us adopt a style and intensify it instead of lightly turning to new beauty. We . intensify mannerisms, too; until they become outlandish. Then they must cease as -the form-molding method 'of holding the skirts. Don't! This week's exhibit has booked the choic est of the exclusive makes of Paris and Ameri ca's best. And this store's leadership in dress was never clearer demonstrated. We haven't stopped with tailored suits, but show such an immense, exposition of costumes suited to all possible occasions that no three Portland stores combined .could possibly equal it. This is no exaggeration, but absolute, positive fact indisputable by any honest person who has investigated We employ more helpers in this section than any other house on the Pacific Coast, and, keep them all busily employed. We show hundreds of models unobtainable by other Portland houses for the reason that makers confine them to us they are exclusive, could not be handled to advantage by houses with a reputation of "cheap." So it is to the benefit of all concerned that only reliable houses of such repu tation as this establishment bears not only at home, but in market should be given control of such superior lines as bear the stamp of individuality and charming elegance. Of what use would it be for a maker of such rich and beautiful costumes as- are displayed herein luxurious profusion! offering his models to people that cavil at a $500 gown such as shown here? 'Tis nothing for us to sell these beautiful dresses, but we could not expect stores that expend their efforts on cheapening always to even be on a scraping acquaintance with merchandise of such high character. "Yot cannot expect to make. a silk prase out of a sow's eaz." But we have other grades, more of them and better quality for qual ity than any three houses in Portland down as low as $0. Instead of writing a pageful of fashions, we ask you" to come and see the styles and immensity of choosing. In an authoritative way our exhibit is worth the combined showing of all the Portland houses as a Fashion Show. We Append a Few Secrets That Fashion Sets . Out in TIiis Week's Show Collars as -pld-timey as a peony are here. Pelerines that sweep the shoulders quaintly and vxeach almost to the elbow. Sleeves could be mistaken for draperies. But there isn't a harsh line on a,siigle "Creation." Easy flowing lines on skirt and waist. Not bulky. Shirring deftfy catches too much fullness and holds it like a loom does its threads. Skirts are full Most wonderful of all, some of the fulness begins just beneath the belt of the skirt. Some few hold it cunningly with plaits. The French bodice idea carries one back to a picturesque style revived. Deep crushed girdles are the order of the day. Drops are everywhere; on skirts, on waists, on sleeves. Summing it up -Fash-ions are more womanly than for years. Quaint and courtly. Severity has been left far without the portals of Fashion's elect. MILLINERY EXHIBIT CONTINUES Everything here to please milady's taste a veritable " Napoleonic renaissance. The stunning hats from Paris could not have a prettier store set ting. Critics indorse our grand opening exposition in unstinted terms, and Our Public has given en thusiastic praise of the exhibit. It is continued because it requires several days for a city-ful of people to arrange a visit to anjr one'point. Many people skip the pleasure of attending openings because they fear being led to unwar? ranted extravagance. That's old-fashioned. True art lines are not costly, and while a few hats got ten up of expensive stuifs for special occasions do come high, still the Olds, "Wortman & King store has proven that extravagance is not essential. Our styles are exclusive, for all leading makes are con fined to us by their designers, while we have the only artist designers in Portland. We admit we pay them large salaries, but volume of business more' than makes up the expenditure, and our pat rons aooreciate our efforts. Our designers soend 20 weeks of the year in 'New York Gty studying models and styles. No other Portland house can truthfully make such a claim. Our millinery business more than exceeds that of our two nearest competitors combined. These are statements from the reliable house of Olds, Wortman & King backed by them, therefore the public knows they're "Gospel truths." The gaps made in the past week's selling have all been filled, new pattern hats are here, and NO TWO ALIKE, isn't that a worthy feature? New "Poke" effects the Georgette and other new creations and the "Flatiron." New Yorkers saw the Turban she sent and. chris tened it "the flatiron" from the building at Twenty-third, Fifth avenue and Broad way. We are sole agents for the celebrated French Tailored Hats of Henri Bendel's modeling; also the famous Connelly Tailored Hats and Turbans.
