The A. S. Douglass Company will build a sawmill in the com ing Spring, which will be run in connection with the present planing mill now in operation at St. Johns. Beside these, two additional sawmills are expected during theyear, for one of which a site has already been purchased. St. Johns also expects to obtain the location of the drydock within its limits, though the site has not yet been selected; and it is thought also that dur ing the coming year the North ern Pacific Railroad Company will begin the construction of its bridge across the Columbia from Vancouver. Lewis and Clark Centennial and University Park On Monday, Jan. 5, 1903, this company had a river steamer to make four trial trips from Hermit Vale (formerly Lover's Lane), University Park, to the Centennial Exposition site. The result showed that the run could be easily made In seven and one-half minutes, conse quently a boat will be leased or built to ply between those points during the Exposition. It will require not to exceed one-fourth the time to make the trip between University Park and the Exposition grounds that it will require to go from the Exposition grounds to the Postoffice. The liquor restriction that has been placed in all deeds executed by the owners of University Park property ever since the first platting of this suburb, 12 years ago, will make it a desirable place for campers and roomers, as the peace of the place will not be disturbed by drunks and bums. The fact that the river must be crossed to reach this place from the Exposition grounds will be an additional protection to those who shall dwell at Uni versity Park during the excit ing time.
