Barnes, an Up-Country Rancher.) Is the latest song hit of the season. This song has taken the Portland musical pub He by surprise. In other words, Mr. Barnes, like Lord Byron, when he wrote "Chllds Harold," woke up and found him self famous. "Going Back to Mother" has a sentiment that touches the heart of all. Each and every one. young or old, can readily think of some time in their life when they were or wished they were "going back to mother." Mr. Barnes Is the author of the "Lewis and Clark Cen tennial March," that has been such a source of entertainment to the theater going public during the past Winter, as nearly all of the orchestras have given this number once during the evening. Both of the pieces have had a tremendous sale. "Going Back to Mother" Is Just off the press, and has had such a big sale that a iecond edition has been ordered. Mr. Barnes is living on a ranch at Raleigh, Or., and makes no pretension of being a professional musician. In fact with all the great musical hits, few have been made by professional musicians. A pro fessional musician will write a grand classical piece, but for some reason it does not make a hit with the public The song.
