Lane has returned from, a four months' "visit In Leeds, Me., her old home. Miss Ida Ray has arrived from Milwau kee to spend the Winter -with her brother, I. L. Ray. Mrs. J. J. Cobb, who has been visiting Mrs. I. L. Ray, has returned to her home In Seattle. Roy Raley has gone to Washington, D. C, where he will take a course In law at Oolumbia University. -. B. Wade and son, Guy W., have gone to Chicago. Mr. Wade will return In a few days. Guy will remain and enter an agricultural college there. Mrs. R. G. Thompson and daughters. Misses Ida, Harriette E. and Miss Edna E., left Wednesday for California, where they will spend the Winter. Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Johnson gave a dinner party at their home Saturday ev ening. Their guests were Mr. and Mrs. Leon Cohen, Dr. and Mrs. F. W. "Vin cent. Miss Nellie Beach and Mr. Richard T. Cox. Mrs. Charles B. Wade entertained a few club women Monday afternoon at her home. Mrs. Oliver, of La Grande, and Mrs. Evans, of Portland, were visiting at the Wade home, and the meeting was in their honor. Claude Grimes and wife left this week for Dawson City, where they will reside. C. W. Parks returned Wednesday from an extended visit with relatives at La Grande. Miller, arrived Wednesday from Niu Chwang, China. Miss Hattle Walton returned to Seattle Wednesday, after having visited with her parents in Eugene for a few days. John S. McClure is in Eugene shaking hands with old friends. He will return to Seattle in a few days. Miss Marie Bradley, who has been, teach ing school at Bay City, Tillamook Coun ty, returned home Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Vincent entertained a number of their friends at high-live Monday evening. A dainty lunch was served. Miss Stella Dorrls returned Thursday afternoon from an extended visit in Port land. She was accompanied by her sis ter, Mrs. J. E. Bronaugh. The "As You Like It" Club spent a delightful afternoon at the home of Miss Ada Hendricks Wednesday. The young ladies occupied themselves with needle work, while Mrs. Emma Thompson read an Interesting story. A chafing-dish lunch was served by the hostess. McMinnville. Clarence Irvine, of Portland, Is visiting his parents, -Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Irvine. Dr. J. C. Michaux started Wednesday morning for Ashvllle, N. C, to visit his mother. Mrs. F. W. Fenton and daughter. La "Vera, visited Portland relatives tho first of the week. The Women's Club met Thursday af ternoon with Mrs. H. L. Heath. Selec tions from Longfellow were read, after which tea was served. The afternoon proved a very pleasant and profitable one. A jolly crowd consisting of Misses Maude Hembreev Osa VRoberts, ESsio Hobbs and Dotha Daniels, and Messrs. George Adams, Jesse Irvine, Lair Thomp son and Frank Dellschnelder, drove out to the home of Miss Aria Keene Satur day evening and gave her a genuine sur prise. Medford. H. N. Marcy left Tuesday for Pasadena, Cal., where he will spend tho Winter. . Mrs. Fred Miller, of Grant's Pass, spent Sunday visiting friends and relatives here. Harry Harrison, of Ashland, spent the first of the week visiting Medford friends. Mrs. Sherman Orten, of De La Mar, Cal., is visiting her parents several weeks. Mrs. F. E. Bell left Tuesday morning for Newross, Ind.. where she will spend the Winter. Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Rosenbaum, of Wolf Creek, visited over Sunday at the home ; or G. W. Isaacs. Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Patterson was In the city Thursday, having returned from an ex tended trip to Idaho points. One of the prettiest weddings of the season was celebrated December 11, when Albert Featherstone, a promising young attorney of Wallace, Idaho, led to the altar Miss Grace Poe. The wedding took place at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Jeorge H. Wilcox, uncle and aunt of the bride, Rev. E. P. Hughes officiating. Tho -ooms were tastefully decorated with Ivy, .railing vines and chrysanthemums, and the parlors were effectively draped with a canopy of holly arranged above reflectors. Miss Ethel Morgan, of Portland, sang "O Promise Me." and Miss Alta Lamkln played the wedding march from "Lohen grin." The bride was attired in a simple organdie gown, and carries a bouquet of carnations, tne girt or tne groom. Tne presents were many and beautiful. Scott, of Woodburn, was celebrated Wednesday ev ening at the home of the bride's parents, Rev. George H. Bennett, officiating. Af ter the offering of happy congratulations, the dining-room was thrown open and all partook of a daintily prepared wedding supper. Mr. Steclhammer is one of SU vcrton's most highly esteemed young men, and Is employed at the State Insane Asy lum. Miss Fannlo Campbell has returned to TWO PIONEERS OF 1854. Tlie Late Mra. Arabella. Huntingdon. Mrs. Arabella Huntington, who fllea near Kelso. "Wash.. November 3, 1001, -was ono of tho sturdy pioneers of tho Northwest. Bhe was born In Ontario County. New York. 78 years afjo. In July, 1639, she was married to C R. Huntlnston, who was also a native of Ontario County. New York. Desiring to lay for them selves the foundation for a home, they turned their faces toward the land of the setting sun. They crossed the plains in 1854. Mrs. Hunt ington's maiden name was Arabella Smith. Because of physical InflrmlUes she was for Ave years prior to her death unable to walk. Quiet. unassuming, yet ever ready to extend the hand of sympathy, hers was the life that was truly lived. Her husband, C R. Huntington, died January 23. 1001. He was a man of sterling worth, whoso life was above reproach. He was born In Ontario County, New York, In 1S18. her home at Rcseburg to spend the holi days. Mrs. Wllmer Hilt has returned to her home at Cole, Cal., from a visit in Ash land. Mr. and Mrs. A. Van Wyck, of Now York, are among the arrivals In Ashland for the Winter.
