A pretty wedding Tvas solemnized in
this city Tuesday evening, October 8, at
the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and
Mrs. J. C Buckler. 129 Grand avenue.
Tho contracting parties were MIes Gert
rude R. Buckler and Albert Jasmann.
The Impressive service was read by Rev.
X.. E. Rockwell, D. D., presiding elder of
Portland district Methodist Episcopal
Church. Only relatives and immediate
friends were in attendance. In honor of
the happy occasion the different apart
ments were beautifully embellished with
choice ferns, fragrant sweet peas and a
gay display of Autumn leaves tastefully
arranged. ,.
The bride was becomingly attired in
dainty white organdie. She carried a bou
quet of long-stommed white carnations.
The bridesmaid, her sister. Miss Mabel
Buckler, wore a pink organdie gown, and
carried pink carnations. J. H. Buckler
was best man.
After congratulations the company re
paired to the dining-room to partake of
a delicious supper. Champagne punch
was served during the evening. The bride
and groom were the recipients of a num
ber of handsome gifts. Mr. and Mrs.
Jasmann have gone to housekeeping at
47 East Seventh street, where they will
be at home after November 1.

A very pretty home wedding took place
Thursday evening at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. E. D. Pittman, wben their
daughter, Etta, was united in marriage to
Mr. H. C. Llebe, second son of Mr. and
Mrs. George A. Llebe. of The Dalles.
Rev. Mr. Monroe of Woodlawn, per
formed the ceremony In the presence cf
relatives and a few friends.
The bride looked most charming in a
gown of mode crepe de chene, trimmed
In real lace. She carried a bouquet of
fcrlde roses.
The rooms were beautifully decorated
with ferns, palms and cut flowers.
After the ceremony a delicious repast
was served. The happy couple left on
their wedding tour of the Sound cities and
British Columbia. On their return the
will reside in The Dalles, where the
groom is engaged in business.
Peterson-Failing.
A very pretty wedding took place In the
presence of 50 immediate friends and rel
atives at the residence of Mr. and Mrs.
W. S. Palling, Mount Tabor, Or., "Wednes
day evening, October 9. The contracting
parties were Mr. G. F. Peterson and Miss
Mary J. Failing, "both of Mount Tabor,
Rev. Edward W. Sharp was the officiating
clergyman. The parlors were "beautifully
decorated in green and white, the dining-room
and hall, in Autumn leaves and
carnations.
The Tarlde was becomingly attired in
white organdie and carried an arm bou
quet of white carnations, and -was at
tended by 10 young ladles. The bride re
ceived many valuable and beautiful pres
ents. After many hearty congratulations, a
dainty lunch was, served, after which they
departed for their new home at South
Mount Tabor,
Svreet-Berger.
A quiet wedding was solemnized last
evening at St. Stephen's Chapel
by the Rev. W. t A. M. Breck, pas
tor of St. Matthew's Church, the con
tracting parties being Mr. Dwight .
Sweet and Miss Ruby D. Berger, both of
this city. The wedding was private, only
the Immediate relatives being present.

uncle, Mr. "Worley C. Smith, Springfield,
III., Miss Bornice Maxson, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. "Willitm E. Maxson, of Port
land, was married to Mr. Fred S. Leach, a
prominent young business man of McLean,
111. The bride leaves many friends in
this city who regret she is to make her
future homo in McLean.
Williams-Harrod.
Dr. Claude E. "Williams, of Tacoma, and
Miss Luclla Harrod, of this city, were
- quietly married at noon, "Wednesday, Oc
tober 2, at the residence of Rev. J. F.
Ghormley. They left in the afternoon for
their future home in Tacoma.
EVEXTS OF THE "WEEK.
Delta Iota Chi Entertain.
Eta Chapter of Delta Iota Chi enter
tained in a most charming manner last
, Wednesday evening at the residence of
Dr. Raffcty. on the East Side. The spa-
. clous parlors were most elaborately
trimmed with Autumn foliage and DIx
emblems. Progressive hearts was the
game of the evening, and was most heart
ily enjoyed by all. The score cards were
most novel, being the exact copy of the
society pin. The fortunate winner of the
first gentleman's prize was Mr. Mc
Gowan. At a late hour delicious refresh
ments were served in a most cosy Jap
anese dining-room. All the decorations
wore Japanese, and the room was lighted
by dozens of tiny Japanese lanterns. The
table was beautifully decorated. After
retiring from the dining-room dancing was
indulged in for a short time. .
The gathering was in honor of Miss
Catherine Struble, who leaves shortly for
the East, where she intends staying for
some time.
The guests were: The Messrs. James
McGowan, Irving Pratt, Ernest Dukehart,
Ralph Rohr. Ben Norden, Edwin Jorgen
son, "William Banks. Ray Warner, Harry

Tn-enty-nrst Birthclay Party.
Mr. W. Harvey Wells, son'of Mr. J, L.
Wells, was given a surprise party Thurs
day evening by his parents at their home,
C09 East Ankeny street, the occasion being
his 21st birthday. A number of his young
friends were there to greet him when he
came home to e-pend the evening, and the
surprise was well carried out. During
the evening a number of musical selec
tions entertained those present, as also
did talks about school days. At U o'clock
a dainty supper was served.
Colonel Bnsn Surprised.
On Monday last a few of the friends
of Colonel and Mrs. D. B. Bush, Four
teenth and East Burnslde, gave him a
genuine surprise and filled the house to
overflowing on the occasion of the fiftieth
anniversary of their wedding. The guests
arrived at 8 o'clock, and for two hours
the scene "was one which could leave no
doubt of the place whUji this venerable
couple hold in the hearts of their
friends. The spirit of the evening was
so spontanenous and genuine that It made
every one feel young once more to bo
there. Colonel Bush's military record is
one of distinction, and to him. and his
regiment, the Second Illinois Cavalry,
was assigned the honor of leading Grant's
advance around Vicksburg.

Miss Olive M. Slate, of The Dalles, Is
making her home at the Union.
Miss Dora R. Porter, of Shedd, Or., is
the latest name on the register.
Miss Bertha Kreibohm, of 'Astoria, has
been a guest of the Union this week.
Mrs. J. E. Lynch, accompanied by her
son, John, has returned from Chehalis.
Miss Cora B. Lemon, of Grant's Pass,
is residing at the Union, while attending
a. medical college.
Miss Lora B. Harder, of Melville, Or.,

Mrs. Albert Sheldon returned last Sat
urday from Victoria, where she went to
attend the celebrations given in honor of
the Duke and Duchess "of Cornwall and
York. Mrs. Sheldon was presented and
shook hands with both their royal high
ncsscs. Mr. G. E. Wharton and wife, nee Miss
Maud Benedict, have returned from their
honeymoon, and are now pleasantly dom
iciled at the Benedict residence, 5G9 Mis
sissippi avenue. They visited Seattle and
Vancouver B. C, seeing the Duke and
Duchess of York at the latter place, and
had an enjoyable time on the whole trip,
Mr. Wharton holds a responsible position
with the Merchants' Protective Associa
tion, of this city.

Captain Harold E. Cloke was host at a
delightful party at his home at Fort Se
vens a few evenings ago. The guests
were entertained with progressive hearts
and the prizes were won by Miss Tallant.
Miss Hellborn and Mr. Finlay. The party
broke at a late hour and returned to the
city by a launch chartered for the occa
sion. The young men of Astoria gave a very
enjoyable dance on Friday evening in
Hanthorn's Hall. The guests of honjt
were Miss Louise Tallant and Mr. Richard
Carruthers, who are to be married on
Wednesday, October 16. Mr. Carruthers
will take his bride to Florida, which will
be their future home, so the dance was
in the nature of a farewell party.
