The night was perfect, the heavens being brilliant with a myriad of twinkling stars, which cast a soft reflection upon the glassy waters of the placid Willamette, while the temperature was everything that could be desired. Returning to town, the party repaired to the Hobart-Curtis, where they found an elegant supper awaiting them. The deco rations were exceedingly effective, and were all In tones of yellow and brown, the principal floral embellishments being exquisite vases filled with coreopsis blos soms. Besides Mr. and Mrs. Lombard!, there were present: Sir. and Sirs. John F. Ames, Sir. and Sirs. William Slackenzie, Sir. and Mrs. C. H. Slarkham, Sir. and Mrs F. D. Chamberlain, Sir. and Sirs. R. L. Sabln, Sirs. C. B. Curry, Sirs. Sillier, of Oakland. Cal.; Mrs. Webster, of Oak land, Cal., and Sir. T. A. W. Shock. An outing party consisting of Messrs. Hunt Lewis, R. W. Slacleay, W. B. Slac kay, P. Glfford and Dr. George F. Wilson left here last Slonday evening by train for Eugene. From there they take wagons and proceed to the headwaters of the Desfchutes River, and canoe down it to its junction with the Columbia, which is just above The Dalles. About two weeks will be spent in making the trip, and they will probably find excellent hunting and fishing en route. Mrs. S. R. Johnston gave a charming dinner party at the Hobart-Curtis on ( Monday evening, in honor of Dr. Johns ton iho Is here visiting his brother. The round table In the private dining jhall was charmingly arrayed with a , wealth of golden tinted nasturtiums rest ing on a bank of their own brilliant green foliage. The menu was very delicious. Besides Professor and Mrs. Johnston and ,tho guest of honor, there were present Dr. and Mrs. Slossman, Sir. Honeyman, Mr. Stowell and SIr Livingstone. Sir. J. SIcI. Wood gave a dinner party at the Norton on Thursday evening, in honor of his sister. Sirs. Henry L. Wiley. The round table was decorated with sweet peas and maldcn-halr ferns, and, with Its dainty glassware and shimmering silver, presented a very attractive appearance. The Others at the table were: Sirs. Ar thur, SI. Sllnott. SIIps Williams, Sir. W. D. Wheelwright and Sir. P. Du Flon. .Mrs. Wiley will be pleasantly remem bered as Sliss Roberta Wood during her residence here several years ago. WEDDINGS. ,, tj Slncpheraon-Carter. A pretty home wedding took place Wednesday evening, July 17, at the home of the bride's mother, Sirs. W. D. Carter, 62S Fifth street, the contracting parties be ing Miss Estelle Carter, of Portland, ana Mr. Hugh Slacpherson, of Kingston, On- 'tario. The parlor was beautifully decor ate "rlth pink and white sweet peas and carnations, the principal feature of which was a bower of trailing clematis and white sweet peas under which the cere- mony was performed. The bride was tharmlng in a gown of white silk organdie trimmed with laco and ribbon. She car ried an immense shower bouquet of white carnations. Sliss Ethel Rolf son, gowned in pale blue crepe de chine, and carrying a huge bouquet of pink carnations, at tended the bride. The groom was at tended by Mr. W. E. Carter. After con gratulations the guests repaired to the dining-room where a dainty supper was served. The happy couple took their de parture amid a shower of rose leaves for an extended tour of Canada. Their future home will be Kingston, Ontario. Jolinson-Sliort. James F. Johnson, one of the stalwart members of the Police Department, has joined the benedicts. The announcement hag Just been made that he and Miss Loleta I. Short, daughter of Captain S. V. Short, of the steamer Dalles City, were quietly married on the 7th Inst. Sirs. John son belongs to one of the earliest pioneer families in the Willamette Valley. Her husband has many friends in ward and political organizations ready to wish him all sorts of good luck. Mr. and Sirs. Johnson are at home at 344 Second st?reet. Miller-Collin. A very pretty wedding occurred at high noon on Wednesday, July 17, at the resi dence of Mrs. O. F. Collins, In this city, when Sliss Camille Collins, her daughter, was united in marlage to Sir. George B. Miller, son of Sirs. C. E. Long, also of this city, the Rev. E. D. Casey, of the Pro. Cathedral, officiating. Only the Immediate relatives were present. After a sumptu ous repast the couple left on the North Coast Limited train for the Sound cities on a honeymoon trip. Hnrpcr-SIyers. Andrew Slyers, both of this city. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. G. W. Plummer, of the Evangelical Church. A. Smith, of Portland, Or., were married at the home of the bride's parents, Tuesday, July 16, 1901, by Rev. A. Ackerman. The bride and groom left Im mediately on the steamer for California, where they will make their future home. Corey-Erdmann. Mr. Ray R. Corey, of Baker City, and Sliss Louise D. Erdman were united In marlage Wednesday evening. July 17, at the residence of the bride's parents, 54 East Eighth street, Rev. Dr. G. W. Gue officiating. Only friends were present. Next Wednesday Sir. and Sirs. Corey will leavo fdr Baker City, where Mr. Corey is a mallcarrier. Tabler-Flcclc. At the home of Sirs. Clara E. Tabler, 433 Everett street, Sunday evening, June 30, Sir. Ernest Tabler and Miss Lena Fleck were married. A number of friends were present bringing with them some very costly presents. The Rev. Dr. Alfred Thompson, pastor of Trinity M. E. Church, performed the ceremony. Stewart-Bridges. In Seattle, Wash., at the Hotol Stevens, Rev. W. A. Major, pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church, united in marriage Miss Mable Bridges to Andrew Stewart. The young couple will reside in Seattle. Engagement. Mr. and Sirs. H. SI. Prager announce he engagement of their daugter Rose to Mr. Sol D. Well, of Buffalo, N. Y. EVENTS OF THE WEEK. Reception to Rev. Ray Palmer. One of the most successful affairs ever held in the Second Baptist Church, corner of East Ankeny and East Seventh streets, was the farewell reception, tendered Tuesday evening, under the auspices of the ladles of the church, to Rev. Ray Pal mer, the outgoing pastor and his family. Nothing was left undone that could add to the charm of the rooms, the ladies having taken two days in which to do the decor ating. Not the least enjoyable event of the evening was the presentation to the pastor and his wife of a slight token of esteem materially, a set of silver spoons from his friends. Sirs. Palmer, equal to the surprise, responded with a few words of thanks and farewell. After the cere monies in the auditorium all repaired to the reception-room where refreshments were served, and where the pastor, at a special flower-laden table, was greeted by his friends. Particular mention is due the friends who so kindly contributed to the musical programme, which was inter spersed throughout the evening. Outing on the River. One of the most pleasant outings of the season was that given last Slonday even ing by Sir. Edward Stipe in honor of Sliss Sladge Kay, who recently returned from a months visit to the Sound cities. The party, consisting of 13, all seated In the Portland Rowing Club's large barge, illu minated with Japanese lanterns, rowed up the river to Oak Point where a bonfire was built and a fine crawfish supper was served; at the conclusion of the festivities they floated down the river with the cur rent, singing songs en route. The party was composed of the following: The Sllsses Sladge Kay, Ida Kay, Daisy Jcnks, Bessie Fields, Mrs. W. E. Stevens and Sliss Fisher, of The Dalles; Slessrs. E. Stipe, W. E. Stevens, J. She will spend a SIR. AND SIRS. JAMES PRICE. HILLSBORO, July 20. Mr. and Sirs. James Price celebrated their golden wedding at their home. In North HHIsboro, July 0. Sir. and Mrs. Price were born In New Brunswick, Canada, the former In 1S24, and the latter In 1833. They came to Oregon In November, 1805, and settled at their present homo in April, 1800. Many relatives and friends remembered Mr. and Mrs. Price with beautiful presents. Luncheon was served, the tables being beautifully decorated with lilies and roses.
