Friday evening, at the Taylor Street Methodist Church, a reception was tendered Bishop Cranston by all tho Methodist Episcopal Churches in tho city In honor of his return. Boise-Hawthorne Weddlnc Besides, there was a wedding of no small consequence, since it cements the union of two old and prominent Oregon families. I allude to the marriage of Mr. "Whitney L. Boise and Miss Hawthorne, which, took place Tuesday morning at half-past 31 o'clock, at the home of the bride's mother In East Portland. It was not a largo wedding, enly relatives and the. nearest friends of the two -families being- pres ent Tho house had been made beautiful as a drajm of fairyland for the occasion. Miss Hawthorne, now Mrs. "Whitney Boise, is a beautiful girl, talf and grace ful, and, in tho opinion of those of her friends who were fortunate enough to be present she never looked lovelier than upon this occasion. Her gown was of white crepe du chine, with yoke and sleeves of Duchosse lace. And so, in the midst of melody, fra grance and flowers Miss Hawthorne be came Mrs. Boise. Miss Benson, the maid of honor, was in pink organdie and car ried pink sweet peas. Mrs. Hawthorne, .becomingly gowned in gray and blacky gavo the bride away. After "the cere mony the guests sat down to an elabor ate breakfast Mr. and Mrs. Boise left at 2 o'clock P. M. for a fortnight at Banff. On their .return they will be at home at the Portland. The good wishes of hosts of friends from all parts of the state and the "whole Northwest go out to the newly wedded pair. There is another wedding to take place In August one which will interest Port land people, although the bride is a New York girl. The prospective groom is one of the many handsome and prosperous young men who contribute- to the materi al advancement of society. But I am not going to announce this marriage just yet In fact, I think I shall leave, you guessing about it for a fortnight longer. Leach, 146 Bancroft ave nuo, Wednesday, Juno 27, the contract ing parties being Mr. J. Herbert Leach and Miss Dora Lambert, who were united in marriage by Rev. Dr. H. "W. Kellogg, pastor of Taylor-Street Mothodlst Epis copal Church. The bride was beautifully attired in white, with orange blossoms, and carried a bouquet of white sweet peas and smilax. The bridesmaid was Miss Josephine Leach, sister of the groom, and the best man was Mr. Ernest Stansbury, both he and the bridegroom haiihg served together in the late Span ish "War. in Company H, of the Becond Oregon Volunteers. The room where the ceremony was performed was prettily decorated with flowers and ivy. The young couple were the recipients of many beautiful presents. Owing to the recent death of. the bride's father, only the families and a few friends were present After the ceremony the company ad journed to the dining-room, where a wed ding lunch was served. A, pretty horns wedding took place Thursday evening, July G, at the residence of the bride's parents; Mr. and Mrs. E. iMurphy, hi Jefferson, Or., at which time Mr. Tyco "Wlgman, of Portland, and Miss Emma Murphy were united in marriage, by Rev. Mn. Culver, of the Evangelical Church. During tho ceremony, the wed ding march was rendered. Miss Lela Hanrdgan and Miss Bessie Hearn, cousins of the bride, were the bridesmaids. The bride was attired in a fawn-colored, tailor-made- suit, trimmed with white satin, and carried a bouquet of bride roses. The house was decorated with rosea, sweet peas and hydrangeas. An enjoyable entertainment of Fourth of July week was a party given by Miss Ivy Pearl Scott at her home on East Ninth and Brooklyn streets, this city, last Tuesday evening. The decorations, consisting of artistically arranged palms, roses and flags, called forth much favor able comment from the guests. Inter esting games and good music formed the entertainment until a late hour, when supper was served. The Misses Bessie and Mary Hay wero tendered a farewell reception and dance, previous to thlr departure for Seattle, last Friday evening, at TJpchurch Hall, Seventeenth and Marshall streets. Twenty-five- couples were present The "Midway Serenoders" were out in forco last Tuesday evening, treating their friends to vocal music After rivaling tho band in the Park block for an -hour, the rounds were made to different houses, tho singing ceasing about midnight after the boys had sung themselves hoarse.
