An interesting series of Lenten lectures from that gifted and enthusiastic student of Biblical literature. Mrs. Louis Alt man, is being anticipated with great pleasure by Portland people. Mrs. Altman, by her brilliant and schol arly talks on various literary and astro nomical subjects, has won the admiring attention of the most critical Portland audiences. Her vivacious delivery no less than her clear reasoning, sparkling wit and epigrammatic style, make her emi nently fitted to please a popular audience, as well as those ft ho have given earnest study to the special subject treated by her. She is no superficial student of He brew literature, as those can testify who have heard her former lectures on this topic. One of the most important social events that Portland has known In many a long day is now being planned by a committee of women, whose high social position and executive ability promise to make it a brilliant affair. This will be a big charity ball, to be. given under the auspices of the Oregon Commandery of Knights Templar, assisted by the advisory board of the Good Samaritan Hospital. The event will take place Immediately after Easter, either at the Marquam Grand or at the Armory, as will be decided later on. The proceeds are to go to the build ing fund of the Good Samaritan. Hospital. It is needless to say that everything will be done that refined taste and art can suggest, in order to make this an excep tionally brilliant affair, such as will be long remembered.
