Page 8 August 7, 2024 Obituary for Thomas Martin (Oct. 25, 1938 – July 29, 2024) Thomas Martin, a be- loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grand- father, and pillar of his community, passed away on July 29th at the age of 85. Born on October 25, 1938, in Delray Beach, Florida, Thomas led a life marked by service, ded- ication, and an enduring commitment to family, career, and community. Raised in Chicago, Thomas’s journey began with his service in the United States Air Force, which brought him to Or- egon—a place he would proudly call home for the rest of his life. After his military service, he pur- sued higher education at Portland State University, where he earned a Master’s degree in Business. This achievement paved the way for a successful career that included work at the U.S. Postal Service and Bonneville Power Administration. After retiring from Bonneville, Thomas channeled his entrepreneurial spirit into founding “Martin’s Cleaning Service,” a business that thrived under his leadership and became a trusted name in the commu- nity. His work ethic, attention to detail, and commit- ment to excellence were hallmarks of both his career and personal life. In addition to his professional endeavors, Thomas had a passion for videography. He captured count- less moments and mem- ories for his family and community, preserving the stories and events that mattered most. Thomas was also deep- ly committed to com- munity service. For over 40 years, he served on the board for Sickle Cell awareness and support, contributing his time, en- ergy, and expertise to a cause close to his heart. His long-standing dedica- tion to this cause reflected his compassion and desire to make a meaningful im- pact on the lives of others. A devoted family man, Thomas raised seven chil- dren, four of whom sur- vive him today with six stepchildren , along with his grandchildren and countless great-grandchildren. His family was his greatest source of pride, and he was a guiding light to them all—providing wisdom, strength, and unconditional love. Thomas Martin’s life was a testament to the val- ues of hard work, service, and love. His legacy will be carried on by his family and the many people whose lives he touched through his professional ac- complishments, creative pursuits, and tireless com- munity service. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Services will be held at 11am Wednesday, August 14th at Highland Christian Center , 7600 NE Glisan St, Portland, OR 97213. Start Your Future Now at Mt.
