Page 6 July 12, 2023 New Addition To Board of Directors Dr. Jose Coll as the university’s next Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Western Oregon Selects Provost & VP of Academic Affairs PeaceHealth’s new Executive director of Volunteers In Medicine, Deleesa Meashintubby PeaceHealth has appointed expe- rienced health- care leader Deleesa Meashintubby serves as Executive Director of Volunteers In Medicine of Lane County, Oregon, which provides medical services to low-income, underserved individuals. A trusted partner and advisor, Meash- intubby has served on the Peace- Health Sacred Heart Medical Center Community Health Board since 2016 and also serves as a steering commit- tee member for PeaceHealth’s Strides for Social Justice program. As recognition of her commitment to her community, Meashintubby was named 2022 First Citizen by the Eugene Chamber of Commerce. She is a member of the Oregon Medical Group Management Association and serves on the 100% Health Execu- tive Committee and the Lane Com- munity College Health Information Technology Advisory Committee. In addition to these professional com- mitments, she serves on numerous boards including Bushnell Universi- ty and the Eugene Chamber of Com- merce. She is also the pastor of St. Mark Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, the oldest African-Ameri- can church in Eugene. Meashintubby holds a bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administra- tion, a certification as a Medical As- sistant, Phlebotomist, and is a Certi- fied Hearing Technician through the Council for Accreditation in Occu- pational Hearing Conservation. With her community health exper- tise and dedication to the well-being of the people and communities of the Pacific Northwest, Meashintub- by will be a valuable addition to the PeaceHealth System Board. Meashintubby will support Peace- Health’s ongoing commitment to the highest level of quality care in our communities. New role started back in June By Brittany Kima Western Oregon University Pres- ident Jesse Peters named Dr. Jose Coll as the university’s next Provost and Vice President of Academic Af- fairs. Coll will start in the new role on June 30th. “Dr. Coll’s experiences in higher ed- ucation leadership have prepared him perfectly to take the helm as Provost at Western,” Peters said. “But more than that, he is student-focused and collab- orative, making him a strong partner in this community as we strengthen and improve our institution. We look forward to him joining the leadership team at our univer- sity. Welcome to Western Oregon, Dr. Coll.” After serving as a noncommis- sioned officer in the United States Marine Corps, Coll completed a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Saint Leo University, his mas- ter’s degree in Social Work from the University of Central Florida, and a Ph.D. in Counseling Education and Supervision from the University of South Florida. “I am humbled at the opportunity to work alongside President Peters, faculty, staff, and students to contin- ue the legacy of Oregon’s oldest pub- lic university,” Coll said. “As Provost of Western Oregon University, I look forward to elevating and celebrating the accomplishments of our collec- tive community while promoting ac- ademic excellence and innovation. I wish to thank the search committee for their service and look forward to meeting and working with the WOU community. Go Wolves!” Dr. Coll is the current Dean of the School of Social Work and Interim Dean of the College of Education at Portland State University and has held administrative and faculty posi- tions at Texas State University, Uni- versity of Southern California, and Saint Leo University. His research interests have been predominantly on worldview development and vet- eran transition. He is the author and co-editor of numerous publications, including The Counselor’s Primer for Counseling Veterans, The Hand- book of Military Social Work, Stu- dent Veterans in Higher Education: A Primer for Administrators, and Ci- vilian Lives of U.S. Veterans: Issues and Identities.
