A film festival to examine the
black experience in America and
showcase the cinematic achieve-
ments of African African-Amer-
ican stars and filmmakers fills
the calendar this month at the
nonprofit Hollywood Theatre in
northeast Portland.
The 2018 Portland Black Film
Festival is curated by Portland
writer and filmmaker David F.
Walker. This year’s guest of hon-
or will be actor Joe Morton, who
will join the festival for a special
screening of his 1984 film “The
Brother from Another Planet,” on
Saturday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m., with
a question and answer session to
follow.

structor, artist and filmmaker Eli-
jah Hasan on Wednesday, Feb. 21;
an extremely rare 35mm print of
“The Spook Who Sat by the Door’
showing Saturday, Feb. 17.
