John Lewis, a civil rights icon who was beaten in a march with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Selma, Ala., told an NBC report- er Friday that he would not be attending President-elect Trump’s inauguration, saying Trump’s election was not legiti- mate, citing Russian interference with the election and the Republi- can Party’s campaign of misinfor- mation against Hillary Clinton. A group of Democratic members of Congress announcing they will not attend the presidential inaugu- ration on Friday grew to over 50 on Tuesday, including Oregon’s U.S. Representatives Earl Blu- menauer, Kurt Schrader and Peter DeFazio. King’s daughter encouraged Americans to fight for the slain civil rights leader’s vi- sion of love and justice “no matter who is in the White House.” Inmate Found Dead A black inmate was found dead in his cell at Oregon’s maximum security prison in Salem Tuesday. The cause of death has not been determined. Dtanyum Arnold Huey, 45, was serving time for an escape from the Klamath County Jail. New Lady Liberty Minted On Thursday, the Department of the Treasury unveiled a new $100 coin which portrays Lady Lib- erty for the first time as African American.
