Skyline Blvd. She was born May 5, 1921, in Merryville, Louisiana, to parents Albert and Lillie (Jackson) Tay- lor. She was a sister to siblings Cloteal, Lee, Otis, and Albert Jr. She attended two years of ju- nior college plus two years at the Madame C.J. Walker School of Cosmetology in Houston, Texas. She married Charles H. Wyse, Jr. on Feb. 10, 1943 in Houston, a marriage that lasted 62 years until his death in 2005. The cou- ple first moved to Vancouver with their son William during the ship- yard days of World War II, where daughter, Loretta was born. After the Vanport flood, they moved to Portland. Within the following 15 years, Raymond, Tanzi, and De- lores were born. Bernice worked as a beautician for many years, working out of her home. She later co-partnered in a beauty shop with fellow church member, Lillian Williams. Fol- lowing her time as a beautician, she served as a central supply tech at Kaiser Permanente until her re- tirement in 1986. Bernice was a proud and in- volved member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. She joined Bethel in 1954 under the leadership of Rev. Har- ley Ackers. She was an active member of the Zepha Baker Unit of the Fannie Cook Missionary Society for many years. Some of the most rewarding experiences included serving as Fannie Cook WMS Worship Director for sev- eral conference years, and Baby Contest fundraisers – “her baby” was the winner in three contests. She will be remembered as someone who had a way of mak- ing others feel comfortable, and she was loved by all who knew her. Her inspirational motto was The Golden Rule: “Treat others as you would have others treat you.” Her favorite scripture was “The Lord’s Prayer.” Her favorite spiri- tual song was “Just a Closer Walk with Thee.” She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings and two sons, William and Raymond Sr. She is survived by her daugh- ters Loretta and Tanzi of Portland, and Delores of Lahaina, Hawaii; four grandchildren, Raymond Wyse, Jr., LaJoyce Bowden, Dana Wyse, and Joshua Wyse-Elder; her great-grandchildren Precious Jones, Armani Wyse, and Jeremy Wyse; two great-great grandchil- dren; and a host of other family members.
