Building Hope
and Homes
A team of young adults, known as the Green
Seven of the AmeriCorps National Civilian Com-
munity Corps, will be working alongside Habitat
for Humanity in the Portland area during the
next few weeks constructing affordable houses.
The first of these will involve interior and exterior
finish work on seven houses. The second site will
involve constructing framing for future houses
for families in need, officials said.
Homebuying Help in Gresham
Some low and moderate in-
come Individuals or families
in Gresham may qualify for
first-time homebuying help.
“Welcome Home,” is a
limited new program that
provides no-interest loans to
people who live in Gresham
and buy a home in Gresham.
Eligibility is limited to
people making 80 percent or
less of federal annual median
income, or $55,000 or less for
a family of four.
The loans can range from
$10,000 to $20,000, depend-
ing on financial need. If the
person or family remains
in their home for 15 years,
the loan balance is forgiv-
en. The city will fund about
8 to 10 loans through the
program this year and another
5 to 7 loans proposed for next
year.
“City leaders recognize
that many families continue
to struggle financially to get
- or keep - their homes and
have made helping home-
buyers a priority,” Gresham
Community Development Di-
rector Eric Schmidt said.
