China Forbes of the internationally acclaimed band Pink Martini will per form Opera arias with the Portland State University Or chestra on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. at the First Congre gational Church, 1126 S.W. Park Ave. Titled "A Room With A View," Forbes will perform works by Catalani, Puccini, and Offenbach, with guest Angela Niederloh-Hay ward. "China is such a tremen dous role model for our stu dents and we are delighted to welcome her to PSU," said Ken Selden, conductor of the orchestra. Smith's "In the Lonely Hour," Beyonce's surprise self-titled release and Pharrell's "G IR L" will compete for the coveted album of the year, along with Beck's "Morning Phase" and Ed Sheeran's "X," the most streamed album on Spotify this year. The Recording Academy an nounced its nominees for the 57th annual show Friday. Pharrell earned a whopping three nominations for the top prize thanks Pharrell Williams to his production work on Beyonce and Sheeran's albums, which means the hit-maker only has a chance to walk away with four awards when the Grammys are presented on Feb. 8. Beyonce, surprisingly, was not up for song or record of the year. Her nom inations include best urban contemporary album as well as R&B song and R&B performance for "Drunk in Love" featuring Jay Z? For song and record o f the year, Smith's "Stay With Me" will battle Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off," Sia's "Chandelier" and Meghan Trainor's "All About That Bass," the viral hit th a t lau n c h ed the buzzed songwriter's own singing career.
