Supporting the Senior Community
U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon
and Multnomah County Commissioner
Loretta Smith visited the Meals on
Wheels location on Northeast Martin
Luther King Jr. Boulevard Friday to
show support for the program. Wyden
spoke openly addressing hunger and
food insecurity for elderly communi
ties.
"Meals on Wheels People provides
a lifeline every day, and one that is
especially worth remembering as we
enter the holiday season,” Wyden said.
“That's why I am steadfast about pre
serving the charitable giving deduc
tion that is so vital to the work that
Meals on Wheels People and other
important community organizations do
to help those who need it most."
Wyden and Smith helped pack and
deliver meals to local families in need
after the meeting, eager to share t h e i r -------------------------------------------------Di,nTn nv «.■” . n ,

Results of a recent election at the
Portland Chapter of the NAACP are
being disputed by members. Cur
rent president Audrey Terrell is still
president according to many mem
bers of the civil rights group, but
some members say Jo Ann Hardesty
and an entire new slate of board
leaders were elected earlier this
month.
Sources have not clarified what
the alternative to Hardesty’s elec
tion would mean - or if it might just
mean the continued presidency of
Audrey Terrell.
The Portland Observer contacted
the regional NAACP office for clari
fication, but haven’t heard back.
