Celebrate Native Culture, Tradition Saturday powpow to bring dance, music, art and food The Native Am erican Youth and Fam ily Center, 5135 N.E. Colum bia Blvd., invites the public to join friends and fam ily from the Native com m unity for their 5th annual N eerchokikoo Honoring Powwow, Saturday, Sept. 6. The all day celebration has developed into a w ell-anticipated event at NAYA as it honors m em bers of our com m unity for their contributions to the im portant work that the center does to enhance the lives of our youth, fam ilies, and elders. A Grand Entry processional is scheduled to begin at noon. Since 2010, the poww ow has draw n friends and fam ilies from within the N ative com m unity, w el com ing the public to gather in festivities celebrat ing Native culture and tradition. This time is speciai for m any as they share and practice Native dances music, art, food and com m unity. A Tiny-Tots exhibition show cases the youth ol our com m unity, and throughout the day dancers of all generations step out to display their talent and pride in Native Indian traditions. Once called Neerchokikoo, the site on which NAYA now stands was a thriving village for the M ultnom ah Chinook people well into the 20th cen tury.
