March on Washington Filmmaker Featured
The Northwest Film Center will
give a tribute to Oregon film m aker
Jam es Blue, who directed a team
o f 14 in docum enting the land­
m ark civil rights event The M arch
on W ashington for Jobs and Free­
dom, where Martin Luther King Jr.
delivered his legendary “I Have a
D ream ” speech.
Blue wrote and narrated the script
and edited the footage, producing,
in the words of preservation spe­
cialist Christina Kovac of the Na­
tional Archives, ‘‘a visually stun­
ning, moving, and arresting docu­
mentary of the hope, determination,
and camaraderie embodied by the
demonstration.”
On Friday, April 25 at 8 p.m. at the
Film Center's Whitsell Auditorium
in the Portland Art Museum, two of
his other documentaries will be
screened, including The Olive Trees
of Justice, made in Algeria, which
won the Critics Prize at the Cannes

Easter weekend will bring egg
hunts for kids in the Woodlawn,
Concordia and King neighborhoods
of northeast Portland.
On Saturday, April 19, at 10a.m.,
Concordia will see an egg hunt for
children at Femhill Park, near the
playground on Northeast 37th Av­
enue. Volunteers are needed. Con­

Later Saturday in the Woodlawn
neighborhood, at 11 a.m., kids 12
and under are invited to meet at
Woodlawn Park for an egg hunt,
crafts and other free fun.
On Sunday, April 20at 10:30a.m.,
a Tiny Tots Egg Hunt for kids 5
years and under will take place at
Two Plum Park in the King Neigh­
borhood.
