Bernice McDonald Slaughter will be celebrating her 97th birth day Friday, Sept. 28 at the Loaves & Fishes Martin Luther King Jr. Senior Center. She was bom on Feb 27,1917 in Roswell, New Mexico, the daughter of Walter and Pearl McDonald, and the youngest of one brother and three sisters. One sister is still living at 98. Bernice has lived at the same house on North Williams Av enue since 1950. She married her husband Edgar Slaughter in 1937 and they moved to Portland in 1939. Both worked at the ship yards during World War II. They had two children, Malcolm and Douglas.
