Memorial Scholarships Awarded
The annual Jennie T. Kemp M e­
morial Scholarships were awarded
last month at Community A.M.E.
Zion Church in Vancouver.
The scholarship fund, estab­
lished in 2006, is a tribute to the late
Sister Jennie T. Kemp, who had a
passion for education and African-
American history.
To date, 38 individuals pursuing
a degree or advanced vocational
training have received financial as-
sistance. The 2013 scholarship
award recipients are Kymbreanna
Elliott, who is pursuing a political
science degree, and Tracey D.
Torrence, who plans to become a
health communications specialist.

will hold its Installation Celebration
weekend May 24-26 to celebrate the
union between its new pastor, Se-
nior Pastor J. W alter Hills II, and the
congregation.
On Friday at 7 p.m. a worship
service with Dr. Johnny Ray Noble
of Second Nazareth Baptist Church
in Columbia, S.C., will include musi-
cal guests Sam Tow nsend and
Imani, Jarrell Hosley and Perpetual
Prayze, and the Gospel Music Work-
shop of America choir.

On Saturday at 6 p.m. an installa-
tion banquet to be held at the Lloyd
Center Doubletree Hotel will feature
speaker Rev. Mariko Billups of Jack-
sonville, Fla., and music by Jaqueine
Echols and Genesis.
On Sunday, the 10 a.m. speaker
Rev. A. A. Dicks of Simpsonville
S.C. will be followed by the formal
installation is 3 p.m. with speaker
Rev. J. Walter Hills I of Columbia,
S.C., the father of Pastor Hills. Music
will be provided by Roslyn Wilder
and the New Hope and Friends
