The Lan Su Chinese Garden in Old Town/China
Town celebrates the symbolism and history of the
Chinese New Year and the arrival of the Year of
the Snake with a two week festival.
The most colorful, sensational and joyous of
all Chinese festivals, the event for families and
individuals roars with lion dances, glows with
lanterns, and entertains with cultural activities
and demonstrations.
The activities include a traditional tea cer
emony, Chinese yo-yo, and fan and sword demon
strations. Interactive activities include a make
your own snake activity, live snake demonstra
tions, tai chi and more. There will be music and
dance performances by local Chinese schools
and talks on feng shui, food, calligraphy and holi
day plants.
Lion dances, the most colorful and loudest of
New Year activities, will greet visitors on Sunday,
Feb. 10 at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.; and
then are repeated at the same times on Saturday
and Sunday, Feb. 16 and 17, and Saturday and
Sunday, Feb. 23 and 24.
Three magical nights of traditional lantern view
ing close out the festival on Friday, Feb. 22 through
Sunday, Feb. 24, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each
night. The entertainment includes a dragon pro
cession led by Lee’s Association Lion and Dragon
Dance Team and a lantern dance by the Portland
Chinese Dance Troupe.
The after hours events require a special admis
sion ticket for entry. More information and tick
ets are available at lansugarden.org. The Chinese
Garden is located at 239 N.W. Everett St.
