Located in Old Town/China Town, the garden is staging a two week festival for the Chinese New Year. T w o w e e k fe s tiv a l fo r th e Y ear o f th e S n a k e The Lan Su Chinese Garden in Old Town/China Town celebrates the symbolism and history of the Chinese New Year and the arrival of the Year of the Snake with a two week festival. The most colorful, sensational and joyous of all Chinese festivals, the event for families and individuals roars with lion dances, glows with lanterns, and entertains with cultural activities and demonstrations. The activities include a traditional tea cer­ emony, Chinese yo-yo, and fan and sword demon­ strations. Interactive activities include a make your own snake activity, live snake demonstra­ tions, tai chi and more. There will be music and dance performances by local Chinese schools and talks on feng shui, food, calligraphy and holi­ day plants. Lion dances, the most colorful and loudest of New Year activities, will greet visitors on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.; and then are repeated at the same times on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 16 and 17, and Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 23 and 24. Three magical nights of traditional lantern view­ ing close out the festival on Friday, Feb. 22 through Sunday, Feb. 24, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each night. The entertainment includes a dragon pro­ cession led by Lee’s Association Lion and Dragon Dance Team and a lantern dance by the Portland Chinese Dance Troupe.
