Flath. Dr. Flath w ill end his d istin guished career next m onth after 35 years o f practicing m edicine in the Portland area. He obtained his m edi cal degree from the U niversity o f Iow a in 1973, com pleting his resi dency at O regon H ealth & Science U niversity. He is board certified in o b s te tric s an d g y n e c o lo g y an d spent his w orking years pursuing general obstetrics and gynecology, as w ell as ultrasound and infertility. Dr. Flath was on the ground level o f what W om en’s H ealthcare A sso ciates has becom e today. A m em ber o f the Portland W o m en ’s C linic, which he joined in 1977, he was also part o f the m erger with the Lloyd Center W om en’ sClinic in 1991, which in turn becam e W om en’s Clinic, PC in 1993. W om en’s Health C enter o f O r egon and W om en’s Clinic, PC joined W om en’s Healthcare A ssociates in 2011, becom ing the largest private m edical practice in Oregon. “ Dr. Flath and I com pleted our specialty training at O H SU the sam e y ear,” says Dr. D aniel Schrinsky, W o m e n ’s H ealth care A sso ciates c h ie f m edical officer. “W e ’ve been Dr. Thomas Flath part o f the sam e professional c o m m unity fo r decades— and th a t’s a long tim e! W hen w e began discuss ing m erging practices tw o years ago, it was a no brainer. It has been an h o n o r to share this part o f o ur ca- reers; the w o m en ’s healthcare co m m unity is losing a very valuable and distinguished m em ber.” O ver the years. Dr. Flath has been part o f a group o f influential special ists in the P ortland com m unity, in cluding a team w ith the skills for m ore extensive surgery required for patients w ith gynecologic cancers, so m eth in g relativ ely unheard o f during the 1970s. W ith last y e a r’s m erg er w ith W o m en ’s H ealthcare A ssociates, Dr. Flath finishes his distinguished career am ong physicians he first trained and practiced w ith so m any years ago. “I have a fishing boat th a t’s been in storage for m ore than six years and it’s com ing out January 2n d ,” says Flath w ith a chuckle. “M y plan is to focus m y attention on my fam ily and continue to stay active in our com m unity by volun teering. B ut first I ’ll do nothing!
