Honoring Veterans
“Every. Day is Veteran’s Day” was the theme of the
annual Veterans Day parade in northeast Portland’s
Hollywood district.
Participants during and after the Nov. 12 event
emphasized the need to honor those who have died in
military service, but also to care for the ones who came
back, especially those most in need.
The parade included veteran and military groups,
the Grant High School and Beaumont Middle School
marching bands of northeast Portland, and many
civilian participants said.
Representatives of New Seasons Market and other
community volunteers collected donations of new
pairs of socks and blankets for distribution to home
less veterans.
The parade grand marshals were the local family of
Marine Corporal Keaton Coffey, recently killed in
action in Afghanistan. His father Grant Coffey said his
son gave the ultimate sacrifice to his country.
