Your Full Service Staffing Company Maurice Rahming Local & Federal Staffing Stepping Up to Improve Workforce Equity Temporary Staffing Services Community Benefits Agreement Adopted In an effort to get more minor ity and female-owned contrac tors working on city projects, the Portland City Council recently passed a Community Benefits Agreement. The goal, according to Mayor Sam A dam s, is to im prove workforce equity on large-scale city projects and increase train ing and placement of historically underrepresented people. “Minority-owned prime con tractors are underused on city projects. This is a chance to change that, to bring workforce equity to city contacts and pro mote the training and placement of women and people of color working on large city jo b s,’’ Adams said. The city ’s 2009 D isparity Study conducted by BBC Re search and Consulting, found that minority-owned contractors are significantly underutilized in the city. A CBA agreement between the city and contractors, unions and the community, sets a uni form standard for working con ditions, wages and benefits, as well as increased w orkforce training, employment and con tracting opportunities for women and people of color. “T h is is the b ig g e st inclusionary effort I’ve seen from the city,” said Maurice Rahming, president of O ’Neil Electric, Inc. in Portland, and vice president of the National Association of Minority Contrac tors. “In the past, there were ef forts, but there was no real way of monitoring, or course-correct ing when need,” said Rahming. continued Employee Recruitment & Executive Searches BROOKS Apply & Test Online R E S P O N S IV E , MEMBER: A PORTLAND « U S IM II S A L L IA N C E American Suiting Association W ii * S T A F F IN G IN N O V A T IV E , D IV E R S E 1130 NE Alberta Street Portland, Oregon 97211 sbrooks.com jobs@sbrooks.com 800.540.7930 503.284.7930 [o] 503.284.7977 [ f ] SERVING THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST FOR 30 YEARS DE LA SALLE NORTH CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL on page 8 OPEN HOUSE FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS Business Diversity Excellence Awards m ation M odeling (BIM ) con sulting on several local projects.
