Rehearsals for “Le Grand Continental, ” started last week at the Expo Center. The White Bird dance series production will use
150 non-professional volunteer dancers from the Portland area.
Kicking off its 15th anniversary sea
son, White Bird is producing Le Grand
Continental, choreographed by acclaimed
Montreal choreographer Sylvain Emard,
and danced by 150 non-professional vol
unteer dancers from the Portland region.
Rehearsals are now underway at the
Expo Center in north Portland. This will be
the West Coast premiere of an exciting
line dance, infused with contemporary
movement that incorporates the rhythms
of country, techno, cumbia, waltzes, and
R&B.
It will be the largest dance event ever
held in Pioneer Courthouse Square. Two
free 30-minute performances are scheduled
for Sunday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
White Bird is bringing Le Grand Conti
nental to Portland as a thank you to the
community for 15 years o f support. Le
Grand Continental celebrates the diver
sity of Portland by bringing together indi
viduals of all ages, ethnicities and back
grounds.
Participants will rehearse twice a week
for the next two months at the Expo Center.
