Rehearsals Begin for Huge Line Dance White Bird taps 150 dancers of all backgrounds photo by C arolyn C ampbell Rehearsals for “Le Grand Continental, ” started last week at the Expo Center. The White Bird dance series production will use 150 non-professional volunteer dancers from the Portland area. Kicking off its 15th anniversary sea­ son, White Bird is producing Le Grand Continental, choreographed by acclaimed Montreal choreographer Sylvain Emard, and danced by 150 non-professional vol­ unteer dancers from the Portland region. Rehearsals are now underway at the Expo Center in north Portland. This will be the West Coast premiere of an exciting line dance, infused with contemporary movement that incorporates the rhythms of country, techno, cumbia, waltzes, and R&B. It will be the largest dance event ever held in Pioneer Courthouse Square. Two free 30-minute performances are scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. White Bird is bringing Le Grand Conti­ nental to Portland as a thank you to the community for 15 years o f support. Le Grand Continental celebrates the diver­ sity of Portland by bringing together indi­ viduals of all ages, ethnicities and back­ grounds.
