A ll facilities aw arded this title

table care, including n o n d iscrim i­
nation policies for L G B T patients
and em ployees, a guarantee o f equal
visitation fo r sam e-sex partners and
parents, and L G B T health ed u ca­
tion for key staff.

gratulating O H SU .

nally Portland Boulevard.
“It was a great decision to name
that street for Rosa Parks,” said Pool,
also a m em ber o f Portland’s alumnae
chapter o f the A frican-A m erican
Delta Sigm a Theta sorority.
She said because the street is
nam ed for the late civil rights leader,
and Peninsula Park runs adjacent,
the location is the perfect place to
put a statue to honor a great wom an.
“W e, the Portland chapter, are very
honored to serve on this com m ittee
because we have our facility across
from Peninsula Park, which will allow
people to enjoy the statue and walk
across the street and see a building
that represents w om en.”
A lthough tim es have changed
since the Civil Rights movement, Pool
said injustice rem ains today.
“Regardless o f w hether we are
enjoying the freedom o f public trans­
portation and being integrated, there
are still areas that d on’t support inte­
gration,” she said. “Even in our city
today, people o f color still have to

fight harder than non folks o f color.”
T o bring in different perspectives
from throughout the com m unity, an
open house to inform individuals
about the statue project was recently
held.
“W e w ant everyone to be in­
volved,” she said.
A survey online is also available
for anyone to give input about the
type o f R osa Parks art piece they
w ould like to have installed.
“This is very im portant to recog­
nize as a piece o f history,” she said.
