Fortiani» (Obstruer lu n e 27, 2012 Page 19 ^F athers Our Beloved Lizzie Sheppard Lizzie Lou Sheppard was born Feb. 11, 1927 and died June 23, 2012. Our beloved Lizzie worked at Oregon Shipbuilding Corp, on Swan Island from 1944 to 1946, where her duties included rivet ing on aircraft carriers. She was employed for Port land Public Schools from 1965 to 1989, which included work as a teacher’s aide at Martin Luther King Elementary School in 1965; a reading lab aide at Jefferson High School from 1970 to 1972; and as a library assistant at King Elementary from 1972 to 1989. She worked as a counselor for the Metropolitan Steering Committee from 1965 to 1970, a War on Poverty program; the Portland Parks Bureau; and the Salvation Army. She volunteered for Loaves and Fishes to help feed housebound elderly persons. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and swimming. She attended Portland State University and received a bachelor’s degree in 1974. She attended Allen Temple Baptist Church, serving as an usher for many years. She will be loved and missed by all! A memorial service will be held in Las Vegas, Nev., and at a later date, in Oregon. For more information, call 503-896-4518. Homegoing Service Dorothy Davis Dorothy Mae Davis, 57, of Portland, died Monday, June 18, 2012 after six years of battling metastatic breast cancer. She was born June 30, 1954 in San Bernardino, Calif, to Joe and Emma Davis. She spent her life serving others with uncondi tional love and acceptance, leav ing a lasting impression on ev eryone who came to know her. Ms. Davis epitom ized the definition of selflessness, always putting others first, especially her children. She was very compassionate with a big heart for young people, often taking in other children whose home environments were less ideal. While Dorothy only had two children, she was a surrogate mother to countless others. She worked for the Depart ment of Human Services as a caregiver for many years until she was unable to do so due to health. She is survived by two sons, Aubre and Aaron Dickson of Portland; three grandsons, Caleb, Eric, and Christian; nine broth ers, seven sisters; many nephews, nieces and cousins; and count less friends whose hearts are permanently etched wijh love and adoration. Viewing will take place at Terry Family Funeral Home, 2337 N. Williams Ave., on Thursday, June 28 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A Homegoing service will be held Friday, June 29 at 11a.m. at Maranatha Church of God, 4222 N.E. 12th Ave., with another viewing prior to service from 10 a.m .-l 1 a.m. In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family asks that donations may be made to the Dorothy Davis Benefit Memorial Fund at Wells Fargo Bank.
