The center hosts its annual Water Safety Day on Friday, May 18. Water Safety Fun Day Portland Parks and Recreation is offering a fun opportunity to learn more about how to stay safe in and around the water. According to the Centers for Dis ease Control, drowning is a leading cause of accidental death for young children ages 1 -4, and the fifth lead ing reason for accidental death for people of all ages. On Friday, May 18, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Mt. Scott Community Center, 5530 S.E. 72nd Ave., will host its annual W ater Safety Fun Day. You can enjoy an evening of swimming with fun activities, games and prizes, as well as water safety information. There will also be a free drawing for lifejackets. All of Portland’s Parks and Rec reation pools offer top-of-the-line swimming instruction, water safety tips, plus open swims, water slides, play structures, special events such as Dive-In Movies (watch the screen while floating in the water!) and other family fun. M H M M N M R M M N N W N M B M N M M N N H M N N N M M W M N N M Free Youth Fishing Clinic The Hood R iver Ranger D is trict o f the M ount Hood National Forest will be hosting its annual Free Youth Fishing Clinic on Sat urday, May 19, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the M iddle Fork Irrigation Pond on Laurance Lake Road in Parkdale. The day will include fishing, learning, and fam ily fun. P artici pants will enjoy casting com peti tions, a contest for the largest fish, and other gam es with prizes and refreshm ents donated by sup porting local businesses.
