Four of the students, Sheng Chen, Justin Martinez, Joseph Thiebes and Danny Nguyen, were named National Commu nity College Aerospace Schol ars. and will take part in interac tive web-based activities before visiting the Jet Propulsion Labo ratory in Pasadena, Calif., May 1-3 for a hands-on engineering project. The project gives community college students a chance to design robotic rovers in coop eration with NASA. The teams will establish fictional com pa nies pursuing Mars exploration. Each team will develop, design and build a prototype rover, then use their prototypes to navigate a course, collect rocks and wa ter and return to a home base. The o n-site ex p erien ce this spring includes a tour of NAS A facilities and briefings from agency scientists and engineers. The program recognizes the academic accomplishments of students focused on a future career in the aerospace, science, or education community. Konell is a computer science and math major based at the Cascade Campus who plans to Mt. Hood Jazz Concert Friday Genesis, the Mt. Hood Com munity College vocal jazz en semble, will perform 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 13 in the Visual Arts Theatre, located on the Gresham Campus, 26000 S.E. Stark St. The ensemble will be joined by the Jeff Baker Quartet. “Jeff Baker is a highly versa tile jazz singer who is strongly inspired by the wonderful Chet Baker. Jeff was also a mentor L egal N otices for many recent Genesis stu dents. His bass player and drum mer also play for the Grammy winner Kurt Elling. It’s going to be a fabulous concert,” said Dave Barduhn, MHCC instructor and music and jazz ensemble direc tor. Tickets will be available at the door and are $10 for students with identification and $15 for general admission. Parking will be free during the performance. Aside from that, I've worked extremely hard since I started back to school with PCC, and it feels good to have someone single you out for all of your effort.
