White Bird Uncaged presents Israeli choreographer Yasmeen Godder’s bold Love
Fire, a twist on stereotypes of male and female identity.
No Holds Barred ‘Love Fire’
White Bird Uncaged will present the North
American premiere of award-winning Israeli-
American choreographer Y asmeen Godder’ s
Love Fire, for three 8 p.m. performances on
Thursday, March 29, through Saturday,
March 31 at Lincoln Hall, Portland State
University.
Godder has received worldwide acclaim
for her intensely physical, no-holds-barred
approach to movement. Set to recordings of
well-known waltzes, Love Fire gives an ex
hilarating new twist to stereotypes of males
and female identity and the roles they play
within a relationship.
The desire to fall in love, to lose control,
to be transformed and taken by passion is
explored through bold physicality and bi
zarre imagery. Critics have called the piece
“amazing” and “a complex and touching
work
Tickets are $30 for adults and $20 for
student and seniors and are available at
whitebird.org or the PSU Box Office at 503-
725-3307.

In preparation for Packy’s 50th
birthday celebration April 14, the
Oregon Zoo is seeking the public’s
help in tracking down and sharing
early memories o f the beloved
pachyderm.
Packy, a Portland icon, made in
ternational news in 1962 as the first
elephant bom in the Western Hemi
sphere in 44 years.
Newspapers and radio stations
around the world announced the
birth, and Life magazine covered
the event with an 11 -page spread
describing “The Nativity of Packy.”
Gifts flooded the zoo— everything
from gold-plated safety pins to
hand-knitted baby clothing to an
elephant-sized quilt — and visitors
flocked to see the new pachyderm.
As Packy’s 50th birthday ap
proaches, the zoo is working to pre
serve his history and would like to
augment its visual records from
Packy’s early years.
Copies will be accepted in addi
tion to original materials. Donations
may be sent tothe Oregon Zoo,4001
S W Canyon Rd., Portland, OR97221,
