Yolanda Canty, whose mother lives in the neighborhood, dis agreed. “From what I hear the dude attacked the police, came out shooting’ and wouldn’t put the gun down,” she said. “I don’t understand the situation because if saw the police in uniforms in my yard, I wouldn’t open the door.” Eric Holstad, a resident of the neighborhood, said the violence in the neighborhood is troubling. “It bothers me it’s in my area, but it’s getting better,” he said. “ 10-years-ago I wouldn’t have stepped foot on this side of town.” He said, however, there needs to be more gun aw areness throughout the community. “I’m a gun owner myself, but it is always down and unloaded,” he said. “1 love guns, but I know a lot of people don’t know how to use them.” Eric Daniels, a minister for a local church nearby, said he also worries about the violence in the area. “There is a label on the villa, and they (police) tend to overdo it out here.” “There is no balance,” Daniels said. “We need to be more proac tive.” Foster Farms Cooking Contest The portland Observer Bridging and Sewing the Portland Metropolitan Area Commited to Cultural Diversity 4747 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Email: ads@portlandobserver.com Web: www.portlandobserver.com A • • I Phone: 503.288.0033 Fax: 503 288-0015 e City of Roses F ill O u t & S end To: ■Subscribe!
