Çortlartb (Dbacrüer D ecem ber 28. 2011 Page 17 Blazers Fill Holiday Wish Lists This holiday season, the Portland Trail Blazers made 14 special visits to head Start programs throughout the city, where they personally delivered gifts and fulfilling every request made by students from their holiday wish lists. Trail Blazers assistant coaches Kaleb Canales, Bernie Bickerstaff, Larry Greer and Dean Cooper teamed up with the players, including Gerald Wallace, Nicolas Batum, Marcus Camby, Greg Oden, Nolan Smith, Armon Johnson, Elliot Williams, Chris Johnson, Kurt Thomas, Luke Babbitt, Earl Barron, Jeff Foote, Ben McCauley, Seth Tarver and Marshall Brown. Team President Larry Miller, Blazers Alumni Am bassador Brian Grant and more than 100 employee volunteers also joined the players. Shortly before the holidays this year, the Portland Trail Blazers made a special visit to the Albina Head Start classrooms, where the team delivered snacks and holiday gifts for the students, who entertained athletes with holiday songs. ^ F a t V h V e r ■H s ■ ■C JU ot /V I I N I ’S T R I E S Come and Experience Faith and Miracles! Seniors Earn College Scholarships Three sen io rs from St. M ary’s Academy have re ceived college scholarships to play basketball at the univer sity level next fall. Zoie Sheng and Sha’Nice Storey have signed on to play for the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. The two girls met playing basketball at the Salvation Army in the fourth grade, Taelor Ross, who played her freshman and sophomore years at Jefferson High School before joining St. Mary’s last year, has committed her skills to Seattle University. All three players participated in the Portland Observer Joyce Washington All-Star Memorial Game last summer after a suc cessful year in which St. Mary’s won their first Mt. Hood Con ference title. The trio hopes to lead their team to the 2012 State Champi onships this year.
