Katya Chorover
Katya Chorover’s song writing
combines country, folk, gospel
and blues with a contemporary,
urban perspective. Her vocals and
guitar are compelling and soulful,
and her music evokes a powerful
emotional response.
After establishing herself in the
Northwest music scene in the
1990s, Chorover recently returned
to the Northwest to record her
latest album. Big Big Love, at Se­
cret Society Studios in Northeast
Portland.
The album, co-produced by
veteran N orthw est m usician
Casey Neill features members of
Neill’s band the Norway Rats,
Jesse Emerson (bass) and Joe
Trump (on drums) and also fea­
tures Portland guitarist M att
Brown.
The group and some special
guests will back Chorover for a
Portland show at 8 p.m. on Thurs­
day, Oct. 20. Tickets are $10. Se­
cret Society Studios are located at

Afrique Bistro Hosts Benefits
You’re invited to party with a purpose when the
Afrique Bistro, 102 N.E. Russell St., opens its doors
each last Saturday of the month to raise donations for
the African W omen’s Coalition.
Great Caribbean and African music, along with
good drinks and fun people will highlight the enter­
tainment each Last Saturday from 9 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.
Cost is $ 10 at the door with 100 percent of the proceeds
to support African W omen’s Coalition programs.
The coalition provides a culturally supportive and
nurturing environment that builds the capacity oft
community to help itself and allows other members
the community to reach their highest potential throu
support, guidance and educational opportunities.
The group’s programs are youth engagement a
cultural awareness, health advocacy and leadersh
