Rockwood Building to Focus on Families
Human
Solutions
realizes a dream
Human Solutions, Inc. held a
groundbreaking last week for the
c o n stru c tio n p h ase o f The
Rockwood Building, a new 75,000
square foot building located at 124
N.E. 181st St. at Couch in Gresham.
The building will contain a multi
service center leased to six non­
profit agencies on the ground floor,
plus 47 affordable apartments on
two upper stories. Partner agencies
that will offer services at the center
for low-income and homeless area
residents include Loaves & Fishes,
Mt. Hood Community College Head
Start, LifeWorks Northwest, Met­
ropolitan Family Service, Wallace
Medical Concern, and Human Solu­
tions.

After more than six years o f
fundraising and project design, the
Rockwood Building will be the real­
ization o f a concept envisioned by
Human Solutions to bring much-
needed housing and a suite o f hu­
man services designed to serve
homeless and low-income families
in the Rockwood area, together in a
single building.
The building will be constructed
on a lot that has been empty for 30
years in the heart o f one o f the
p o o re st a reas in M ultn o m ah
County. It will bring infrastructure
development and much needed so­
cial services to families in East
Multnomah County, many o f whom
have
been
d isp la c e d
by
gentrification that has taken place
in several Portland neighborhoods.
