The Loaves & Fishes Center at the Northeast
Multicultural Senior Center, 5325 N.E. Martin Luther
King Jr. Blvd., is hosting its fifth annual Authentic
Creole Jambalaya Dinner on Saturday, Aug. 14, from
noon to 5 p.m.
Entertainment will be provided by DJ Chicago Dave,
along with other musicians and dancers. The culinary
team is headed by the Loaves & Fishes’ Teletha Ben
jamin and Joan Smith, both o f whom have connections
to southern Louisiana. The pair will be using a tradi
tional Creole-style recipe passed down in Teletha’s
family. The event raises needed funds to help serve hot
meals to seniors in northeast Portland.
“The daily menu at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center
has evolved to include a variety o f soul food entrées,”
said David Lomax, the manager o f the Loaves & Fishes
center. “The food has received such good reviews that
we decided to make it available to the general public for
one special night. We guarantee a sumptuous feast to
delight the tastebuds!”
The menu includes authentic Creole-style jambalaya (a
non-seafood version is available), along with bread, salad,
beverage and dessert. Cost is $ 10 for adults, $7 for children
and $25 for a family ticket for four. Tickets are available
from the center. Meals are available for take-out.
