President Barack Obama hasn’t
given up on getting bipartisan sup­
port for a new jobs bill and a sweep­
ing o v e rh a u l o f the n a tio n ’s
healthcare system. Earlier this week,
he met with top congressional lead­
ers from both parties to talk about
prospects for legislation.
Saints Win Super Bowl
Palin Ponders Run
The New Orleans Saints beat the Indianapolis
Colts on Sunday 31-17, taking the
team its first Super Bowl win in its
43 years in the NFL. The 106.5
m illion people who tuned in
made it the most watched televi­
sion program in Am erican history.
Sarah Palin told the host o f Fox
News Sunday that she would run for president in 2012 if she
felt it was the right thing to do. The darling o f conservatives
also gave an address to the national Tea Party Convention
in Nashville, Tenn. where she was warmly received by anti­
tax activists.

Redesign Moves Forward
A service for two brothers who died tragically was held
Saturday at Maranatha Church in northeast Portland. Aaron
C ampbell died Jan.29 in a confrontation with police. His
brother I iinothy Douglass died that same day from a heart
attack. See related story, front page.

Bike Plan Delayed
People packed City Council cham bers
last week as commissioners mulled over
a 2030 bike plan that would ad 700 miles
o f bike lanes. Despite a lot o f support,
there was no agreem ent on how to pay
for the $631 million proposal. City Council
delayed voting on it, but Adam s assured supporters it
would pass.
