The cultivation of this Rose began at Cherry
Elem entary School and later in Biloxi, Miss.,

Academy.
H er ro o ts co n tin u ed to grow w hen she m oved to
M uskegon, Mich., and where G od sent her a gardener
by the nam e o f Jim m y Exel Trice Sr. On Feb. 2, 1953 the
gardener and Rose becam e one. He nurtured his Rose
and rose buds bloom ed. In about 1957, the couple re
planted their roots in Portland, the City o f Roses. After
Rose and her six buds were planted, two more were added.

unmatchable.
She took roots in the direction o f G reater Faith Baptist
C hurch in 1962 where she held just about every office
except pastor. She was the epitome of a flower;
she fed anyone, housed anyone and loved
everyone.
Her big pots of “gum bo” would feed the
masses. She visited hospitals to visit the sick
and shut in. A m other to all, she was known
as "M am a Rose" or "G ranny.”
On Oct. 1 1,2(X)9, God, with his shears, cut
our beautiful Rose so she may be part o f his
beautiful Heavenly Garden.
She leaves to cherish her memory, Jimmy Exel Trice Sr.,

(Julius) Moore; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren;
and foster children, Claudine (Harvey), Denise Peterson,
Carol Russel and M ichael Fergason.
Rose is gone but sh e’ll bloom in our hearts forever.
