Preparing for the H1N1 Epidemic
Tips to make
you flu-savvy
(AP) - Since it first em erged
in A pril, the global H 1N 1 flu
epidem ic has sickened m ore

k ille d a b o u t 5 0 0 . It's a ls o
spread around the w orld, in
fecting tens o f th o u san d s and
killing nearly 2,000.
A W hite H ouse rep o rt from
an ex p ert panel sug g ests that
from 30 p erc en t to h a lf the
population could catch H 1N 1,
also called sw ine flu, during
the co u rse o f this pan d em ic
and that from 30,000 to 90,000
could die.
So how w orried should you
be and how do you prep are?
T h e A s s o c ia te d P re s s h a s
tried to boil dow n the m ass o f
inform ation into 10 things you
should know to be flu-savvy.
1. N o cause fo r panic.
So far, sw ine flu isn't m uch

low er than the av erag e seen
for seasonal flu, and the virus
hasn't dram atically m utated.
2. V irus to u g h er on som e.
Sw ine flu is m ore o f a threat
to ce rtain groups — ch ild ren

4. G et the kids v accinated.
T h e s e g ro u p s s h o u ld be
first in line for sw ine flu shots,
