2008 Ford Taurus
Limited AWD
by K athleen L inder
The 2(X )K Ford Taurus represents
the resurreetion o f a nam e that has
been a standard in the Ford stable
o f sedans for almost 20 years.
T he Taurus rem ains a four-door,
ive-passenger vehicle. All Taurus
nodels are outfitted with a 3.5-liter
*V6. T he standard transm ission

Bang down the throttle pedal
land the new 3.5-liter V-6 with 263
¡horsepower in the 2(X)8 Ford T au
r u s forcefully surges. It's not fast at
«0 to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds, but it’s
jin the game.
The new engine and transm is
sion in the 2008 Ford Taurus are a
w onderful team. The engine is ex
trem ely quiet and sm ooth at idle,
and uses a pendulum m ounting
system that effectively separates
its m otions and vibrations from the
rest o f the car. It sounds healthy,
powerful and smooth at full throttle,
makes the car plenty quick in accel
eration and passing situations, and
settles down to a nice background
hum in sixth gear, as it should. At
freew ay speeds, the Taurus is very,
very quiet inside.
W ith its five-star NHTSA crash
atings, Ford is already calling it
'"the w orld’s safest family sedan.”
S afety features include front, side
.nd curtain airbags, ABS, and trac-
ion control. Electronic stability
control is an option. W ith its Volvo-
