The new engine and transm is sion in the 2008 Ford Taurus are a w onderful team. The engine is ex trem ely quiet and sm ooth at idle, and uses a pendulum m ounting system that effectively separates its m otions and vibrations from the rest o f the car. It sounds healthy, powerful and smooth at full throttle, makes the car plenty quick in accel eration and passing situations, and settles down to a nice background hum in sixth gear, as it should. At freew ay speeds, the Taurus is very, very quiet inside. W ith its five-star NHTSA crash atings, Ford is already calling it '"the w orld’s safest family sedan.” S afety features include front, side .nd curtain airbags, ABS, and trac- ion control.
