The most recent statistics on
m inority-ow ned business are
derived from the U S. Census
Bureau's 1997 Survey ot Busi­
ness Owners. The Census Bu­
reau is currently com pleting
analysis on the 2002 Survey ot
Business Owners, and has re­
cently issued some prelim inary
data from this survey. The fo l­
low ing is a brief summary o f
statistical inform ation derived
from the 1997 Survey o f Busi­
ness Owners.

cent were owned by Hispanic
A m ericans. 4.4 percent by
Asian Americans, 4.0 percent
by African Americans, and 0.9
percent by American Indians.

firm s, and 6.6 percent in native-
owned firms.
