Latin Artist Featured at Gallery

St., will host new w orks by artist
Jesús T ellosa in his first one man
show in Portland.
W ith a w ell established group o f
collectors, T ello sa’s appearance is
attracting visitors from the Bay Area
and Puget Sound.
Born in M exico in 1936, Jesus
Botello is know n as T ellosa. In the
early ’60s he started to w ork with
different m edia using bold brush
strokes, painting with spatulas and
experim enting with collage tech­
niques, and in 1960 he had his first
solo exhibition at the D egollado
G allery in G uadalajara.
He continued his art studies at
the Regent Polytechnic Institute in
London and over the next few years
participated in several collective
exhibitions in London. In 1966, he
had his first solo show at the Rimmer
Gallery.

show in his work.
In the ’70s he becam e interested
in jew elry design and in 1974 cre­
ated his first collection in sliver and
gold incorporating ancient am ulets.

In 1980, he returned to M exico,
w here he w orks in bronze, sheet
metal and ceram ics as well as co n ­
tinuing to paint and design jew elry.
He show s at the G alleria D ante in
Puerto V allarta and produces large
scale w orks on com m ission.
The A lberta Street venue will
host this artist with a reception on
opening day o f the exhibit, on Thurs­
day, April 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. For
