F o r sev en years I have been working in the dis trict everyday on critical issues like living-w age jo b s, public safety, af fordable housing, access to health c a re , and e n su rin g that o u r schools have the revenue needed to keep class sizes small. 1 founded Better People in 1998, a local organization that has helped hundreds of former offenders find and keep living- wage jobs. I took a leadership role in the Minimum Wage Cam paign in 2(X)2 that resulted in 100,(XX) minimum wage earners getting a raise this year and every year. I helped pass last year’s school levy and I’m working to stop its repeal this year. This record of delivering results has led to my endorsements by many commu nity leaders, including Senators Margaret Carter and Avel Gordly. If elected, I will pour my heart into three key issues: living-wage jobs, health care and schools. In addition, I will pour my energy into two related issues - race and by **C lasses are free for qualified participants! criminal justice reform - issues make college more affordable that affect the other three. because educational development On living-wage jobs, I will ignites economic development. work to ensure that people who But the gains in living-wage live in north and northeast Port jobs, health care and schools land have a fair shot at the jobs cannot be sustained if race and being created by the last Legisla crim inal-justice issues are ig tive session’s $2 nored.
