M ichael L eslie has brought
smooth class and charm to his role
as the voice of Audrey II. the mur
derous plant in "Little S hopof Hor
rors."
The show comes to Kel ler Audi
torium from Oct. 19 through 24 as
part of Fred M eyer's Broadway in
Portland series.
Leslie, a New Yorker, is touring
with the show straight from Broad
way.
Bringing a puppet to life for an
audience is a chai lenging role for an
actor, but Leslie has lots o f prac
tice. He was chosen by Howard
Ashman, the original writer and
director of "Little Shop of Horrors”
and Alan Menken, the original com
poser of music in the play, and was
instructed by them on how to play
the part.
“I have a long history with the
role,” said Leslie, who also toured

Filed by Jack so n ’s lawyers, the
m otion claim s S n ed d o n 's h an
dling o f the investigation has re
vealed o f co nflict o f interest that
prevents the singer from obtain-
in g a fa ir tria l.
It alleges Sneddon has a ven
detta against Jackson dating to a
1993 molestation investigation that
did not result in charges being filed.
"Mr. Sneddon did not hide his
anger that he was not able to charge
Mr. Jackson,” the motion said. "This
failure fueled Mr. Sneddon's zeal
ousness in this matter.”
Jackson’s lawyers also allege
Sneddon displayed his bias at No
vember 2(X)3 news conference an
nouncing that an arrest warrant had
been issued for Jackson.
Sneddon w elcom ed reporters
with a joke and he "bantered with
reporters and drew chuckles as he
poked fun at Mr. Jackson and his
music. He sm iled and sm irked
throughout the conference," the
motion said.

Leslie says he approaches it like
an actor, not a voice over, and ac
tually practices with the actors
onstage at rehearsals.
"You have to make the audience
believe that what is onstage is ac
tually coming from the stage and
not me in a sound booth offstage.
I do everything the puppet does,
twirling around and doing things in
the booth, so I’m a sight for the
crew and stage hands," Leslie says.
He adds, "I'm actually an actor,
not ju st someone standing in a
booth and doing a voice over. It
takes on a lot of hue when you are
an actor besides being a singer.”
