Tuesday for Louis ‘Toby’’ Tobin,
a longtim e Portland businessm an
who died Sepl. 26.2004 al the age
o f 88.
Tobin was bom in Portland and
served in the 635"’ Tank Division of
the U.S. Army during World War II.
Upon his return in 1948, he married
Frieda Mudrick and co-founded
H&B Jewelry and Loan Company,
Portland’s oldest pawn broker,
where he continued to work until
his passing.
He was well known by his many
new and longtime customers for his
honesty and his respect for people
from all walks of life. He opened a
second outlet in recent years on
Northeast Martin Luther King Jr.
Boulevard and showed support for
the local community.
An accomplished golfer. Tobin
faced discrimination in his early
years when many Portland golf
clubs refused to allow Jewish play-
o f Living W ord M inistries, in Portland. Conference host is
Pastor Level 1 Thomas.

Cathedral of Praise Ministries presents 'His Glory Confer­
ence 2004’, Tuesday, Oct. 5 through Friday, Oct. 8 at
Cathedral o f Praise, 1821 S.E. 39th Ave. and Stephens
Street, in the historic Hawthorne District.
The theme o f the free and open conference is "Reaching
Beyond The Veil.” Services will be held nightly at 7 p.m. No
registration is required.
The opening night o f the conference will be a worship and
praise service, including praise dance and exhortation. All
services will consist o f life changing worship and praise,
anointed musical guests from throughout the city and dynamic,
spirit-filled speakers from various parts of the country.
Guest speakers include. Bishop David E. Martin of Dallas,
Texas, who is the founder o f Rhema M inistries and the
Presiding Prelate o f the Rhema Fellow shipof Churches and
Senior Pastor of Gospel Tabernacle Church also in Dallas;
Evangelist Barnela Ruth I abb, Co-Pastor of House of Prayer
Assembly o f East St. Louis, Illinois, and Apostle Mario Rivera
