Many gym hounds know the

instructor, known as a teacher’s
teacher, sees the practice as having
much greater benefits than simply
toning the abs.
“Yoga lends itself to anyone,”
said Ravi Singh, who has studied
the ancient art for 27 years. “A lot
of people dealing with any chal
lenges in life find yoga gets to the
core of issues they are dealing with."
According to Singh, breathing
in a conscious way taps into re
pressed pain and memories, allow
ing people to deal with their prob
lems and work past them. For this
reason, he holds free workshops in
women’s and runaway shelters.

claiming your own power."
Singh and Brett recently visited
the Multnomah Athletic Club in
southwest Portland to teach three
workshops and promote a series of
books and videos called "Fat Free
Yoga."
Singh reaches audiences with
practical lessons promising youth
ful bodies, long life and good health.
Also a poet, his lessons are often
summed up in pithy ditties staying
with audiences long after their mats
are rolled up.
