A dult foster care helps clients with daily living challenges such as hygiene, laundry, m edication ad m inistration, transportation assis tance and meals. A t the A ddie M ae M cFarland A dult Foster H om e, in southeast Portland, seniors and those with varying disabilities are cared for in a hom e-setting, w ith cable televi sion, phones and three tasty meals everyday. H ill's facility also has the benefit o f a registered nurse on duty, 24-hours a day. "O n e o f the things happening in the A frican-A m erican com m unity is they are being displaced outside the A frican-A m erican com m unity, to places that d o n 't have the cu l tu ral a w a re n e ss to m eet th e ir needs,” said Hill. T he facility addresses dietary, social, spiritual and cultural needs o fitsc lie n ts— w hich com m on care facilities often overlook. H ill, form erly a nurse w ith O r egon H ealth and Sciences U niver sity for 10 years, opened the care facility three years ago. A lthough the facility specializes in caring for people o f color, Hills says that people o f all races and backgrounds are w elcom e to re ceive top-level individualized care.
